From Spreadsheets to a Single Source of Truth: A Murjan Global Success Story
For many wholesale and retail businesses in Oman, growth brings complexity. Managing inventory across multiple locations, tracking sales, handling accounting, and serving a growing customer base can quickly become overwhelming when relying on disconnected tools. This was the precise challenge facing Murjan Global, a Muscat-based distributor and retailer of lighting products. With two physical locations—a main warehouse and a customer-facing showroom—the company was struggling to maintain a clear view of its operations.
Before partnering with SynthoERP, Murjan Global's operations were fragmented. The team managed 5,943 customers and a catalog of 222 unique products using a combination of spreadsheets and manual processes. This created significant challenges:
- No Real-Time Stock Visibility: Staff in the showroom couldn't confirm stock levels in the main warehouse without making a phone call, leading to delays and potential lost sales.
- Disconnected Data: Sales data, customer information, and purchase orders were stored in separate files, making comprehensive reporting nearly impossible.
- Manual Accounting: Generating invoices and tracking payments was a time-consuming manual process, and ensuring 5% Oman VAT compliance on every transaction was a constant concern.
- Inefficient Workflows: Simple tasks like transferring stock from the warehouse to the showroom required manual paperwork and lacked system-level tracking.
The management team knew they needed a centralized system to unify their entire business. After evaluating several options, they chose Odoo 19 for its flexibility and comprehensive feature set, and partnered with SynthoERP for a full-scale implementation.
The Solution: A Fully Integrated Odoo 19 Implementation
SynthoERP deployed a suite of Odoo modules tailored to Murjan Global's specific wholesale and retail needs. The goal was to replace every spreadsheet and manual process with a streamlined, automated workflow within a single database.
The core implementation included:
- Sales, Purchase, and Inventory: To provide a 360-degree view of the core business cycle.
- Accounting (Oman VAT): Fully configured with the official Oman localization (l10n_om) to automate VAT calculations and reporting.
- CRM: To manage the extensive 5,943-customer database and track sales opportunities.
- HR, Payroll & Attendance: To manage employee records, process salaries, and track attendance for both locations.
- Point of Sale (POS): For quick and efficient in-store transactions at the showroom.
- Website + eCommerce: To launch an online store and provide customers with a new purchasing channel.
Custom-Built for Omani Business Needs
Beyond standard configuration, SynthoERP delivered several key customizations to solve Murjan's unique challenges:
1. Custom Reporting Module (`murjan_reports`): Wholesale clients often need detailed, visual confirmation of the products they are ordering. To meet this need, we developed a custom Odoo module, `murjan_reports`. This simple but powerful enhancement automatically adds product images to every PDF sale order and customer invoice generated by the system, reducing order errors and improving client communication.
2. Two-Step Inter-Warehouse Transfers: To manage stock movement between the Main Warehouse (WH) and the Showroom (SH), we configured a 2-step transfer process in Odoo. When goods are sent from WH, they are first moved to a virtual "Transit" location before being received at SH. This gives managers full visibility of stock that is in-transit, preventing "ghost stock" and ensuring inventory counts are always accurate.
3. Automated eCommerce Fulfillment: The new eCommerce store is configured to pull inventory from the main warehouse. To streamline fulfillment, we designed a custom route so that when a customer places an order online, the delivery order is automatically generated from the Main Warehouse but routed to the Showroom for final customer pickup or local delivery, optimizing last-mile logistics.
4. Oman-Specific Fiscal Positions: To handle taxation correctly, we configured two primary fiscal positions. The "Domestic" position automatically applies the 5% Oman VAT to all local sales. A "Foreign Trade" position with 0% VAT was also created for export sales, which can be assigned manually as needed.
The Result: Full Business Visibility
By replacing disconnected spreadsheets with a single, integrated Odoo system, Murjan Global has achieved complete visibility across its entire operation. The management team can now access real-time data on sales, inventory levels, financial performance, and customer activity from a single dashboard. The showroom team can check stock instantly, the accounting process is automated and VAT-compliant, and the new eCommerce channel operates seamlessly with the physical stores.
This success story is a clear example of how a properly configured Odoo system can transform a traditional Omani SME, providing the foundation for sustained growth and operational excellence.
